How I made the Two fabric fronted Pinafore Dress.

Here are the pieces laid out after cutting .

pattern pieces

I have the front cut to the fold in mid brown velvet , the facings are in wine coloured cotton and the two parts of the front are cut seperatly. I would normaly cut one front to the fold and then aplique a decoration but this is a different look, so I have cut the fronts further across than the fold line  you could go as far over as you like, it depends how big you want the pleat to be or how much fabric you have to play with.

First

fronts sewn together

I sew the two front pieces Right Sides together  and serge the edge. Press out the seam.

Then I pleat the front to make it the right size to fit it's facing.

Then I sew the facing to the front and also sew the back facing to the back. Once sewn I trim the seams back turn through and press.

The facings are now turned and pressed .Next I sew the side seams, including the facings together.
